Overview

With a highly personalized approach to life coverage, Wysh could be a good choice if you’re seeking a life insurance policy tailored to your individual goals and lifestyle. Likewise, its application process is 100% online and the company doesn’t require a medical exam - though there will be questions about your health. Both of these features could prove extremely attractive if you’re looking for hassle-free protection.

Pros

  • Medical exam not required
  • Instant coverage available
  • Coverage from $9 per month

Cons

  • Not available in all 50 states
  • Applicants must be between 18 and 50

Suitable For?

As you will need to be between 18 and 50 to apply for a new policy, Wysh could be a good match if you’re in a younger age bracket. The company could also be particularly suitable if you enjoy good health and avoid risky activities.

According to Wysbox’s website, the company may reject your application on the basis of serious existing medical problems, substance abuse, a poor driving record, or engaging in extreme sports.

With instant free quotes and instant coverage, the company could also be attractive if you’re keen to arrange coverage with minimal hassle.

Features/Highlights

Wysh specializes in term life insurance products. Included below are the standard features for these products.

  • No medical exam required
  • Premiums beginning from $9 per month
  • 100% online/in-app sign-up and account management
  • Coverage between $50,000 and $2.5 million
  • No additional fees or commissions
  • A two-year suicide and contestability period
  • A 31-day grace period on late payments

One feature we particularly like about the company is its Build Your Wyshes tool, which can help you determine how much insurance you may need. To use this tool, you’ll need to enter details about existing debt and wishes for your dependents.

The site will then provide you with a personalized estimate of the amount of coverage you need to fulfill these “wyshes”. Having this information is a great way to help you avoid buying too little—or too much—coverage.

Another feature we found particularly attractive is Wysh’s Keep Rates Young policy. This allows you to update your policy and retain the rates you received when you bought your coverage—provided that your health hasn’t declined during this period.

Imagine you bought a policy at the age of 25 and wanted to extend your coverage 10 years later. Your 35-year-old self could potentially receive the same rates you did at 25.

Policy Types and Terms Available

Wysbox offers term life insurance policies, which means you’re insured for a limited period of time. You select the amount of time you’d like to be covered—known as your term—when you buy your policy.

Once this period ends, you’ll no longer be covered by the company, and your beneficiaries will not receive a payout if you die at a later date. Note, Wysh doesn’t offer whole-of-life policies, which cover you indefinitely until you pass away.

When you take out a policy, you’ll need to apply for a minimum term of at least two years. The maximum term you can achieve will depend on the age at which you applied for a policy.

Although you must be between 18 and 50 to apply for a new policy, Wysh will allow you to extend your coverage until the age of 65. For example, if you were to apply for a policy at the age of 40, you can continue to be covered for the next 25 years. In this case, your maximum term would be 25 years.

When you take out a policy, you’ll receive an additional riders at no extra cost.

  • Accelerated death add-on : This allows you to receive money from your insurance if you’re diagnosed with a terminal illness. The money is intended to cover expenses related to medical and long-term care.

Application Process

If you would like to apply for a policy, you can receive a free quote via Wysh’s website. Be aware, the company doesn’t currently operate in all 50 states. You can find a full list of eligible states here .

The application process typically has the following stages:

  • Enter basic information about yourself—such as age and overall health
  • Receive an estimate of your coverage costs
  • Provide further details—such as family medical history
  • Receive your actual quote
  • Purchase your policy

According to Wysh’s website, it typically takes around 10 minutes to fill in the application form and receive a decision.

When testing the site, we found the company’s application process extremely straightforward with an easy-to-navigate form and jargon-free language.

How Safe Is It?

When taking out life insurance, you’ll understandably want to ensure the provider you choose is as secure as possible.

Wysh currently has a rating of 4.2 out of five on Trustpilot, which is based on nine reviews. Those who rated the company highly praised the ease of its application and the helpfulness of its customer service. In contrast, one dissatisfied reviewer claimed that cheaper quotes are available elsewhere.

If you would like to cancel your policy, you can do so at any time. You’ll also receive a full refund if you cancel within 30 days of buying a plan.

Help & Support

You can contact Wysh through its online query form and via live chat. Wysh also has phone support available at 1-800-WYSHHLP (1-844-997-4457). Customer support hours are 9am-5pm (EST), Monday to Friday.

When we contacted the company through its online query form, we received a polite and detailed response in under 30 minutes.

The company also has an extremely comprehensive selection of FAQs and a useful chatbot tool on its website. As we researched the company, these provided most of the information needed.

Making a claim

Should you pass away during the term of the policy, your beneficiaries can begin the claim process via the company’s website by entering your name, date of birth, and policy number.

Once your loved ones have entered this information, Wysh’s agents will contact them to process the claim. At a later stage, they will also need to provide a death certificate and proof of their identity—such as a driver's license or passport.

Wysh states that it will typically process payments within 10 working days of receiving all the necessary information. However, the company does include a two-year suicide and contestability period in its plans. This means that the claim may be subject to additional checks if you pass away within this period or your death is due to suicide.

Wysh At A Glance

If you’re aged 50 or younger and in good health, Wysh could be an excellent choice if you’re looking for hassle-free life insurance. As well as a 100% online application process, the company doesn’t require you to submit to a medical exam when buying coverage, though there will be some health questions. Furthermore, its personalized approach to cover can help ensure that you find a policy that suits both your needs and those of your loved ones.
